Edward O'Bryan, MD, MBA, CPE
Chief Medical Officer
With over 14 years of clinical and leadership experience in telehealth and digital health, Dr. O’Bryan has created programs that impact millions of lives annually. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Vice President of Clinical Operations at True Pill, where he directs the program and business development, quality assurance, strategy, provider network building, partnerships, and KPI development across the True Pill system.
Before joining True Pill, Dr. O’Bryan held the positions of CMO & VPMA of Clinical Operations at Wellpath, where he managed clinical in-person and telehealth operations in 38 states for over 300,000 patients daily. His prior experience also includes significant roles at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). At MUSC, he served as the Enterprise CMO for Telehealth and Business Health and the Executive Director of MUSC Health Solutions, a system-wide accelerator for the rapid commercialization of innovative digital medical products, services, partnerships, and ideas. Dr. O’Bryan also served as the Medical Director of the Physicians Assistant Program and Chief of the Division of TeleHealth at MUSC.
Over his career, Dr. O’Bryan has developed and managed the TeleHealth platforms at Wellpath, MUSC, and Truepill, incorporating direct-to-consumer, corrections, nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, specialty services, mental/behavioral health, psychiatry, insurers, and employer groups. His instrumental role in the development of the HRSA-granted South Carolina TeleHealth Center of Excellence – one of only two such centers in the U.S. – is responsible for over 1.3 million telehealth encounters a year.
On the academic front, Dr. O’Bryan maintains his role as an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at MUSC. During his tenure at MUSC, he was Chief of the Division of Global Health and TeleHealth and Chief of the Health and Wellness Service Line. He has over $15 million in funded research and a substantial number of publications and academic presentations to his name.
Dr. O’Bryan is a Davidson College alumnus and earned his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina. He later completed his M.B.A. at the University of Tennessee. Away from his extensive professional commitments, Dr. O’Bryan enjoys spending time with his wife Claire and their two daughters, Evy and Tillie.
